💡 Tip: Many of our guests use Kastellet as a base for exploring the Stockholm archipelago. With SL single tickets and travelcards, you can travel on Waxholmsbolaget’s regular boats to and from Kastellet and use the same ticket throughout Stockholm’s public transport network – an easy and affordable way to discover both the archipelago and Stockholm during your stay.

Kastellet is located on its own island in the heart of the Stockholm Archipelago, just a two-minute ferry ride from central Vaxholm. During the summer, regular Waxholmsbolaget ferries operate throughout the day, making it easy to reach the island from both Vaxholm and Stockholm.

Waxholmsbolaget

Waxholmsbolaget’s regular boats operate to and from Kastellet from morning until evening. With SL single tickets and travelcards, you can travel easily and affordably between Stockholm, Vaxholm and Kastellet.

Planning a journey further ahead?
Waxholmsbolaget’s journey planner normally shows departures up to approximately 45 days before the travel date. If you search for a later date, it may therefore appear that no boats are operating, even though the timetable has simply not yet been published in the journey planner.

From Kastellet

Please turn the semaphore at the jetty approximately 10 minutes before departure so the captain knows you wish to board.

Single ticket

Adult: 43 SEK
Reduced fare: 26 SEK
Children under 7 travel free when accompanied by an adult.

Water taxi

Water taxi is an option if you need to travel outside Waxholmsbolaget's regular ferry timetable or prefer a private transfer.

⚠️ Advance booking is required for travel during late evenings, at night and early mornings. For bookings, prices and current availability, please contact one of the water taxi companies listed below directly.

Water taxi services are operated by independent companies. Kastellet Bed & Breakfast is not responsible for bookings, availability or the transport service. Guests are responsible for arranging transportation directly with the respective water taxi company.

Kastellet guest harbour

Arriving in your own boat is a memorable way to begin your stay at Kastellet. The guest harbour is situated below the historic fortress, just a few minutes’ walk from Kastellet Bed & Breakfast.

The harbour has approximately 15 free guest berths for visitors to the island.

  • Berths cannot be reserved in advance.
  • They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • It is very unusual for all berths to be occupied.

M/S Djurgården 4 – high season only

During part of the high season, M/S Djurgården 4 operates on the route Vaxholm–Kastellet–Badholmen.

This is an additional seasonal service used mainly by day visitors and offers more frequent departures during the period in which it operates.

  • Departs from quay 7 in Vaxholm.
  • SL tickets and travelcards are not valid on board.
  • Each journey must be paid for separately.
  • The service is operated by an independent operator with its own ticketing system.
  • Current operating dates, departure times and fares are displayed at quay 7 during the season.
